Barton Farm Refused

Finally the waiting is over, the Secretary of State has decided, the proposal for 2000 homes at Barton Farm has been refused...for now. For many residents in Winchester this will be a great relief. In our view this is the right decision. The scheme still has significant room for improvement and is too important to get wrong. In the long term however Barton Farm will no doubt go ahead. Plans For Places still suggests a need for 4000 houses in Winchester. The difference is there is now time to get the proposal right. We will be working with the City of Winchester Trust and WINACC to try and ensure a more sustainable, high quality and higher density proposal is ultimately delivered. Most of all though we will be continuing to push for houses to be built in locations that enhance the city. See our alternative proposal for 2000 houses - Winchester 2020.
