Planning submitted for CMC Adventure's new outdoor activities building

CMC Adventure is a Christian-run outdoor education centre situated within the Parc Cenedlaethol EryrI /Snowdonia National Park, Wales.

The existing buildings were deteriorating, impeding the charities operation and limiting future expansion. We were appointed to work with the leadership team to address these issues, which involved the refurbishment of the existing buildings and the creation of a new build ‘Hub’ to provide new administration offices, changing room facilities and staff accommodation.

An integral part of the project was working with the charity to explore the potential of the site and assisting them in the creation of a more efficient site wide masterplan, that integrated with their charitable objectives and business plan.

The proposal increases the efficiency of the existing operations on the site and provides additional facilities to enable the long-term viability of the operation. The project is located in a National Park, so it was important that the scheme integrated successfully into both its immediate context, the existing Pensarn Harbour with its historic buildings and wharf, as well as into the sensitive landscape setting. The design builds on the historic wharf building typologies common to industrial quay sides along the welsh coast.

The site is also located in a Coastal Flooding Zone requiring us to collaborate with a Flood Risk Assessor when developing the proposals.
