Mobile Arts Space
A Mobile Arts Space for the New Forest.
The initial concept sketch for the Mobile Arts Space
A visualisation of the concept in location
The Snug Mobile Arts Space was a concept design prepared in response to a brief provided by SPUD, Culture in Common and New Forest District Council who were commissioning 'an innovative, mobile performance structure to take high‑quality arts and culture to towns and villages across the New Forest'. It is designed to tour May–September each year, then be based at Applemore College through the darker months, offering a flexible, inspiring venue for learning and community use.
The competition was looking for:
- A robust, transportable, all‑weather structure that deploys quickly on varied sites (greens, squares, car parks, recreation grounds).
- A flexible space for performance, workshops and exhibitions—welcoming, inclusive, and distinctive.
- A practical build within a total budget of £80,000 (incl. VAT).
Our innovative light weight arts space provides a unique space for people to gather, connected to the varied settings in which it will be placed.
How does it work?
The Mobile Arts Space as a 13m circumference creating an enclosing space for circa 120 people seated or 250 people standing with a small raised stage. It can also be used as a stage to perform to larger gatherings.
The Mobile Arts Space is quickly erected from the trailer. Initially the deck/floor folds off the trailer and is levelled. The polycarbonate end panels are then erected to provide a robust framework for the inflatable enclosure to secure to. The translucent inflatable enclosure is then lifted into position in segments that are zipped together and inflated to form a rigid enclosure.
