CMC Adventure
The redevelopment of a leading Christian outdoor education centre in the Snowdonia National Park
View entering the site
CMC Adventure is a leading Outdoor Education Centre on the West coast of North Wales in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. We have worked with the Christian charity to masterplan the redevelopment of their site at Pensarn Harbour.
"At CMC Adventure, we believe that outdoor education enriches the lives of those who participate. We also believe that we are able to enrich outdoor education itself by carefully tailoring our courses to the needs of our guests. There is no ‘one size fits all’ courses available at CMC Adventure. We would like to work with you to plan, refine and deliver an outdoor residential course of which you can be confident will benefit your school, college, youth group or family. We are here to serve you and deliver an exciting, challenging, educational and inspiring programme." We took the same approach to the design of their buildings.
The Phase 1 new build Administration Building
The proposed masterplan from across the estuary
View from the fields
The project comprises two phases. Phase 1 provides a new build administration building, containing support facilities, staff offices and reception for the charity and staff accommodation for the team. Phase 2 comprises a significantly extended and redesigned residential building comprising 72 bed spaces, additional staff accommodation and associated ancillary facilities. This phase sensitively integrates with the heritage buildings on the site and historic lime kiln. We were also required to resolve complex flood constraints on the site.
The new facilities will provide a low energy and highly contextual new building that will enable the charity to continue providing world class outdoor education for generations to come.
Both Phase 1 and 2 have now secured planning permission.
